  • La Vieille Ferme 2006

    • Currently 4/5 Stars.
Rioja - for you - hope you enjoy it! Find it in the smaller/specialist wine stores - e.g., Mt Eden village wine shop (don't know name). This is a Southern Rhone blend of mostly Grenache with Syrah, Carrignan and Cinsault thrown in. If easy drinking is what you want, this is a beauty. Deep red, it...

  • Occam Cafe

    • Currently 3/5 Stars.
Occam cafe - always a healthy buzz and packed on Sat and Sun well into the late afternoon as it is the only decent local cafe. Lots of 20-30s something Grey Lynn/Westmere crowd. Food and coffee is good but slightly pricy. For those wanting something light but different - try the Iceberg Wedge - ...

  • Food Alley

    • Currently 3/5 Stars.
Food Alley's the original foodhall - still going strong but now not the only option in town. Highlights are the famous Chicken Rice and Claypot Rice stalls and cheap beer! Heaps of variety and massive value-for-money!

  • Zap 2 Thai Cafe and Bar Rocks

    • Currently 5/5 Stars.
One of those rare places that serve cheap food of suprising quality. Beats twice-three times as expensive Sawadee, Erawan Thai! Zap is authenthic so the average chilli heat here is above average - ask them to tone it down if you don't like it too hot! Their hot section is seriously faaarkin supa ...

  • Ponsonby Food Court

    • Currently 2/5 Stars.
PFC - mixed bag but great to have a food court in the neighbourhood! Ironically, the highlight are the only two non-asian stalls run by actual Italians and Mexicans. The Mexican is pricier and they try to upsell you 'special rice' and mexican drinks - expensive and not worth it but the dishes are...

  • Swashbucklers Restaurant is Absolute Shite

    • Zero Stars - Terrible
We have since found out that service here is absolutely crap. Here's our experience! A group of us moved from outside to the bigger bar (smaller bar was chocka) which was shut. A waitress explained there was a private function. It was getting nippy and the girls wanted somewhere warmer so we aske...

  • Al Volo Pizza primo pizza

    • Currently 4/5 Stars.
Al Volo serves authenthic Italian pizzas (been to Italia recently, pretty similar) - simple and tasty! Worth a try if you are tired of so-called "gourmet" pizzas piled with tons of crap! In Symonds St opposite Galbraith's Bar, it's a takeaway but you can eat pizzas at the Corner Bar...

  • IL Buco

    • Currently 5/5 Stars.
Il Buco in Ponsonby serves the best pizza Auckland! Actually better than than pizzas I ate in Italy recently! My favourite is shreded potato on pizza base. Carbs on carbs - bloody strange combo but suprisingly tasty! Expensive tho' at $4 per slice! But you pay for what you get - you could say...

  • Daikoku Ramen

    • Currently 4/5 Stars.
Daikoku Ramen, next to the Britomart is in my opinion the best Japanese noodle (ramen) house in Auckland. If you find better (I very much doubt it), tell me! Large servings of thin egg noodles (ramen) with a variety of soups. Mainstays are - pork, soy, and chicken soup and ramen noodles served wi...
